Apple has released the iOS 4.1 which features a new baseband 2.10.4. If you update to iOS 4.1, you will lose the jailbreak and unlock. The latest Ultrasn0w 1.1-1 nor the downgrading back to iOS 4.0.x (with SHSH blobs) will not be able to unlock the iPhone 4. Notcom has found a way to upgrade to iOS 4.1 without upgrading the baseband to 2.10.4 and allowing you to unlock the iPhone 4 on iOS 4.1 as soon as the jailbreak for it is released.

Here is a simple step by step guide  to update iOS 4.1 while preserving the 1.59.00 baseband:

1. Terminate all working applications.
2. Download the latest version of TinyUmbrella (4.1.3) from here( Mac/ Windows/Linux) and launch it.
3. Download the iOS 4.1 from here.
4. Press the ” Start TSS Server” button
5. After that launch iTunes and press restore (Not Update) your iPhone 4 to stock iOS 4.1. To do this, press and hold Left “Shift” button on Windows (left “alt” button on Mac) on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” (Not “Update” or “Check for Update”) button in the iTunes  and then release this button.
6. Now iTunes you the location select the location for your downloaded firmware file. Select that ipsw file and click on “Open”.
7. iTunes will show 1004 error (baseband update failed). You do not have to worry because it’s part of the plan.
8. Click on “Kick Device Out of Recovery” to bring your iPhone back from the recovery mode.
9. Restart your iPhone 4.

It’s done. Be surprised to find your iPhone 4 working on iOS 4.1 with the old baseband 1.59.00!

Tiny Umbrella was the application used earlier to save SHSH blobs on iPad, iPod Touch or iPhone. Saving SHSH blobs could help you to downgrade your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to lower firmware versions. Now, an easy tool to save SHSH blobs on iPad, iPod Touch or iPhone has arrived through Cydia, the iSHSHit app.

Using iSHSHit, you could directly save SHSH blobs on iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch. It also gives and option to send the saved SHSH blobs via email. iSHSHit is pretty easy to use when compared to Tiny Umbrella. Just get the app and press the Save button.

The developer behind TinyUmbrella, Notcom, has released TinyUmbrella 4.21.04 version which supports the saving of iOS 4.3 b2 firmware’s SHSH blobs. Earlier, version 4.21.03 was released by Notcom for the same purpose, but as it had some bugs, he fixed it and released the TinyUmbrella 4.21.04 version now.

I’ve just added iOS 4.3b2 support. For those of you with Apple Developer accounts, this means you can save your SHSH’s for that version and restore to it permanently.

Earlier today, 4.21.03 and 4.21.04 versions of TinyUmbrella was released to give iOS 4.3 b2 SHSH Blobs saving support. First due to some bugs in it, version 4.21.03 was updated to version 4.21.04. And again in this version, a bug with saving SHSH on the iPad was found. So it has been fixed and TinyUmbrella 4.21.05 has been released.

Those users who used the phonebook SIM card trick to activate their iPhones have started getting a “Â Different SIM Detected ” error message on emergency mode screen after jailbreaking their devices. Don’t worry because here is how to fix Different SIM Detected error shown on emergency mode.

1. Download the ifunbox software from http://www.pars-gsm.com/Downloads/ifunbox_en.zip.

2. Launch the software and sync your iPhone.

3. Now download the lockdown folder from here.

4. Navigate to /private/var/root/Library/ delete the original lockdown folder and put the earlier downloaded one in its place.

5. Restart your iPhone and the Different SIM Detected error will be fixed.

AppSync, the app used to install .ip files manually, has been updated to a newer version for the iOS 4.2.1 firmware running devices. All those who have been able to jailbreak their devices and obtain cydia on their iPhone or iPod Touch or iPad on iOS 4.2.1 can install AppSync 4.2. Here are the instructions to install AppSync 4.2 on iOS 4.2.1.

NOTE : We don’t have any intention to promote piracy with this hack. This should be used only for informational purposes.

1. Jailbreak your iPhone or iPod Touch or iPad on iOS 4.2.1.

Jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 on Windows and Mac OS X

2. Launch Cydia.

3. Select the ” Manage ” tab.

4. Tap on ” Sources “.

5. Add the source ” http://cydia.hackulo.us “.

6. When the source is added, search for ” AppSync for OS 4.2.1 ” in Cydia.

7. Install the AppSync for iOS 4.2.1.

That’s it! You have successfully installed AppSync on iOS 4.2.1.

If you feel that you need to increase the volume of your iPad, then here is a solution for your problem. This also works on your iPhone or iPod Touch. You could use the Volume Boost App to increase iPad volume. The application could be used in jailbroken Apple devices since it is an app available via Cydia. Here are the steps to install Volume Boost 4.0 to increase iPad volume.

1. Jailbreak your iPad.
2. Launch Cydia.
3. Search for Volume Booster.
4. Look for Volume Booster 4.0 and install it.
5. Open Winterboard and check the Volume Boost 4.0 checkbox. (Winterboard will be automatically installed along with the Volume Boost 4.0 app)

Now your iPad’s volume will be increased.

The Dev Team released the redsn0w 0.9.6 b4 today and with that, you could jailbreak 4.2.1 iOS on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. But it supports only tethered jailbreak on some of the devices which are given below. Till an unlock for the iOS 4.2.1 is released, you should not update to iOS 4.2.1 as it will upgrade the baseband.

Now if you want to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 on Windows or Mac OS X, then here are the steps to do it.

1. Download iOS 4.2.1 from here.

2. Update your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad to iOS 4.2.1.

3. Download Redsn0w 0.9.6 b4 from here.

4. Launch Redsn0w 0.9.6 b4 and browse to the iOS 4.2.1 firmware.

5. Now click ” Next ” after Redsn0w verifies the IPSW. Now Redsn0w prepares the jailbreak data.

6. In the next window, select ” Install Cydia ” option. You could also select any other option also. Then move forward.

7. Now switch off your device but keep plugged in to the computer and click ” Next “.

8. Now go into recovery mode by pressing the power and buttons for 10 seconds and then release the power button, but keep holding the home button until the iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak process begins.

9. Wait till Redsn0w finish the iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak process.

NOTE : For the devices mentioned above under tethered jailbreak category, if you want to SSH into your device, you need to use the ” Just boot tethered right now ” in Redsn0w before doing it.

Looks like it is a flow redsn0w 0.9.7 beta versions since the past day. The redsn0w 0.9.7 b3 has been released by Dev Team now. Redsn0w 0.9.7 b3 version fixes some more bugs like the issues related to non-GUI programs which were experienced by the testers while using beta 2 version. Redsn0w 0.9.7 b3 should cover bugs related to things like Facetime, Winterboard themes, and embedded videos in iTunes.

But, the cautions of using this still remains as the before ones. And this release is mainly for testers only. The jailbreaking instructions using redsn0w 0.9.7 b3 are same as the before beta versions.

A few days back, iOS 4.2.1 GM was released to developers and it was able to jailbreak the new iOS 4.2.1 using redsn0w. Also, last day, redsn0w 0.9.6 beta 3 was released to support the jailbreak of iOS 4.2.1 GM. But Cydia was yet to be patched. So here is a guide on how to patch and install Cydia on iOS 4.2.1.

1. Jailbreak your device on iOS 4.2.1 using the guide given here.

2. Download the Cydia patch given here.

3. SSH into your device.

4. Now copy the patch file to /Applications/Cydia.app/Cydia_.

5. Now type the below given commands in the terminal app on Mac OS X by using the original Cydia binary from here.

apt-get update

mv Cydia_ Cydia.bak
bspatch Cydia.bak Cydia_ Cydia.patch

chmod +x+s /Applications/Cydia.app/Cydia_

6. Reboot your device and Cydia will be working.

Apple has released the iOS 4.2.1 IPSW (final version) for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad and is available for download. The iOS 4.2.1 firmware comes up with new features like AirTunes, Wireless printing, AirPlay, new folder features and more. The main specialty is that iOS 4.2.1 supports iPad also so that iPad users can also enjoy the same features experienced by iPhone and iPod Touch users.

You could update your iPhone 3G/3GS/4 or iPod Touch 2G/3G to iOS 4.2.1 using iTunes. You could download iOS 4.2.1 IPSW files from the below given direct download links by Apple.

Apple has released the iOS 4.2.6 IPSW for the Verizon iPhone 4 which has been announced to be available in stores from February 10th onwards. At the Announcement Event, it was told that the Verizon iPhone 4 will run iOS 4.2.5 firmware. But now they have posted the iOS 4.2.6 IPSW for Verizon iPhone 4.

Apple has released the third beta of the new iOS 4.3 to developers, Apple says that this new OS is a improved version than its predecessor and it will be going to launch it on Feb 13.The latest beta version OS, is loaded with new features that include Airplay. Airplay supports third party apps and rather less excitingly full-screen iAd banners for the iPad. It also has the new gesture feature, that won’t make the final cut-and were included to gain some feedback from developers and the new Mi-Fi option, which makes your iOS device as Wi-Fi hot-spot.

Although, on Feb 14 the Mobile World Congress is beginning and it is a surprise that why Apple is launching this new beta release just one day before MWC. I don’t have any idea about it, but it seems that Apple loves to make an announcement during huge media events that aren’t attending.
