Step 1: Prepare your iPhone for restoration
Connect your iPhone to your computer via USB and click the gray Back Up Now button when viewing the Summary tab for your given device in iTunes. Alternatively, follow our guide on how to use iCloud to back up the device you Apple’s remote servers. Although backing up your device is not necessary, doing so will store your photos, apps, contacts, settings, and other data so you can automatically restore other iOS devices from the backup down the line.
Step 1: Access the Reset menu
Tap the main Settings icon when viewing the homescreen, select the General option on the resulting menu and tap the Reset button at the bottom of the next page.
Step 2: Reset your iPhone  
Tap the blue Erase All Content and Settings option second from the top, followed by the red Erase iPhone option in the resulting pop-up window to confirm the decision.
Step 3: Ensure the phone was restored
Once the restoration process is complete — a process that may take up to several minutes — check to ensure the phone has been restored to the original factory settings. If done correctly, you’ll once again be presented with the iOS Setup Assistant upon startup, from which you can then restore your phone from backup or continue the process as if setting up a new phone entirely.

Step 3: Ensure the phone was restored
 Once the restoration process is complete — a process that may take up to several minutes — check to ensure the phone has been restored to the original factory settings. If done correctly, you’ll once again be presented with the iOS Setup Assistant upon startup, from which you can then restore your phone from backup or continue the process as if setting up a new phone entirely. It’s like it just came off the assembly line at Foxconn all over again.

 

 

 

 

Create a Hotspot to Tether Any Device With Wi-Fi

If you have a Mac, scroll down — you can do this more easily. But you can connect any type of device to the Internet through your iPhone. This means Windows laptops, Chromebooks, Android tablets, iPads, portable gaming consoles, and more — anything at all that can connect to Wi-Fi.
To get started, open your iPhone’s Settings screen and tap the Personal Hotspot option between Cellular and Carrier near the top of the screen. If you don’t see the option, contact your carrier — it’s possible you have to pay them extra before you can see and use it.
Enable the Personal Hotspot feature and your iPhone’s top bar will turn blue, indicating that the personal hotspot is running in the background and draining your battery.
Your iPhone will now appear as a nearby wireless network. On any device with a Wi-Fi connection, open the list of networks and choose your device in the list — it’ll be named something like “[Name]’s iPhone.” Select it in the list and you’ll be asked for a passphrase. Enter the passphrase displayed on the Personal Hotspot screen on your iPhone. Your device will connect.
When you’re done, pick up your iPhone and disable the Personal Hotspot feature to save battery life. This is easy — your iPhone’s top bar will be blue as long as the Personal Hotspot feature is enabled. Tap it and you’ll be taken directly to the Personal Hotspot screen, where you can disable it.

Easy Wi-Fi Tethering on a Mac

Mac OS X Yosemite makes these things work well together. Click the Wi-Fi icon on the menu bar, and you’ll see your nearby iPhone appear under “Personal Hotspot.” Click it, and your Mac will automatically connect to the iPhone, enabling the Wi-Fi hotspot feature and allowing you to connect directly to the Internet.
This is convenient because it allows you to quickly connect to your iPhone from your Mac without leaving the personal hotspot feature enabled all the time. You can do this entirely from your Mac without picking up your iPhone and tapping anything. It’s only enabled when you connect to it. This saves battery life.

USB Tethering on a Mac

You can also connect your iPhone to your computer via a USB cable — not a bad idea, as the iPhone can draw power from your Mac and its battery won’t be run down by the tethering.
Go into your iPhone’s Setting screen, tap Hotspot, and Personal Hotspot near the top of the list, and enable Personal Hotspot. You can then click the WI-Fi icon on the menu bar and select Open Network Preferences. You’ll see that your Mac is tethered to the iPhone using the “iPhone USB” connection. If you don’t see it in the list, click the “+” button and add the iPhone USB network interface.

USB Tethering on Windows

USB tethering can al;so function with a Windows PC. You’ll need the latest version of iTunes installed on your Windows PC to do this, as it includes the appropriate drivers. Enable Personal Hotspot on your iPhone and then connect it ot the Windows PC using a USB cable. Your Windows PC will be able to use the iPhone as a network connection, just as a Mac could.
This should automatically configure itself if you plug your iPhone in with Personal Hotspot enabled. You’ll see the network connection appear as an “Apple Mobile Device Ethernet” connection.

iPhones also support Bluetooth tethering. Pair your iPhone with a computer or other device over Bluetooth to share the Internet connection using Bluetooth. Wi-Fi tethering will be easier to set up and faster. However, Bluetooth tethering could potentially drain your iPhone’s battery more slowly, saving some battery life.

1. Download and Install RedSn0w 0.9.15B2 or higher. [Download Link]
2. Download a copy of your device’s iOS 6.0 firmware. [Download Link]
3. Invoke DFU mode on your device, if you don’t know how to do this RedSn0w will walk you through it when needed.
4. Open Redsn0w, navigate to: Extras>Select IPSW and select your iOS 6.0 firmware that you downloaded in step 2.
5. Now navigate back to the home page of RedSn0w and click the ‘Jailbreak’ button. Leave this to continue until boxes come up and check ‘Install Cydia’.
6. Once done, your device will appear as if it has just booted. However Cydia will not be on your homepage. You now need to perform a tethered boot.
7. Connect your device back up to your computer if you have disconnected it, and reopen RedSn0w if you closed it. Now place your device one again into DFU mode, and go to Extras>Select IPSW and select the same firmware that we did in the first step, it’s essentially the same process. Once RedSn0w has done it’s thing, select ‘Just Boot’ and when your device reloads it will have Cydia on it!

Since the jailbreak is tethered you will have to complete step 7 every time your device fully powers down.

As you might already be aware, Apple released iOS 6.0.1 to the public only a day or so ago. Guide To Unlock iOS 6 Using Ultrasnow

To create custom ringtones using only iTunes:

1. Right click on the song you are going to make into a ringer and select “Get Info.”
2. Go to the options tab and go down to the “Start Time” and “Stop Time” check boxes. Check both boxes and input the time you want your ringer to start/stop. The ringer has to be 30 seconds or less. Click OK when you’re done.
3. Right click on your newly “clipped” song and select “Convert Selection to AAC.” The song will be re-encoded using the start and stop times determined (If your menu item does not read “Convert Selection to AAC” and reads “Convert Slection to MP3″ (or some other format) please go to iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > Importing and change the “Import Using” drop down menu to “AAC Encoder”).

4. After the song is done encoding navigate to your iTunes Music folder, locate your song, and drag it to your desktop. After the song is on your desktop go back to iTunes and delete the clipped version from you iTunes library (It won’t delete it from your desktop, it will only remove it from iTunes).
5. Go back the song on your desktop and right click on your song and chose “Get info.” Go to the name and extension section and change the extension from .m4a to .m4r (or you can just change the extension right from your desktop)
6. After the extension is changed simply double click on the file to add it to your iTunes library under the ringtones section. Sync your phone with iTunes and you’re done!

During my pre-Apple days, I was already fascinated by a voice recognition program called Dragon Naturally Speaking.  I dabbled with it for a while but since the hardware needed to run the program was on the extreme side, I could say that I didn’t get what I expected from the program.  It was just too tedious to do: check that you have a powerful enough system, install the software, train the program for about ten years (just kidding) in a very quiet atmosphere so that it’ll learn your voice and words at the same time, further train it so that it can follow commands and then wait for the garbage to come out on the screen. Frustrating indeed!

Fast forward to the present and we see Apple presenting Siri to a captive audience during its recent media event and launch of iPhone 4S on October 4th. Sure, Apple has attempted to give voice recognition to its older releases of the iPhone, particularly the 3GS and the iPhone 4, but voice control for these iPhones is really just an experiment when compared to Siri, iPhone 4S’ exclusive Voice Assistant. Still, I was a little bit disappointed with the release of iOS 5 that Siri has remained an iPhone 4S exclusive. As we all know, the iPhone 4S is powered by the same A5 processor used in the iPad 2. And the iPad 2 also has a built-in microphone – I’m wondering why Siri is not available my beloved iPad.
But before we go into that any further, let’s just check the existing state of Voice Control for the iPhone 3GS and 4. Right now, Voice Control for these devices just doesn’t function on either the iPad or the iPad 2 for the very simple reason that they would be totally useless. The presently available Voice Control on these older devices simply lets you control music playback, dial a contact number, start a FaceTime call, get some info about the currently playing music or get the time… Not much really. But the reason for this is that the older iDevices’ hardware is not powerful enough to handle anything more.
Now comes Siri with its myriad commands specifically designed for a powerful device such as the iPhone 4S.  So the iPhone 4S is announced with Siri in tow but why not for the iPad 2 which shares the same hardware as the newly announced iPhone 4S?  Everything presented during the Apple event – from setting up Reminders and posting Calendar events to searching for anything and everything in Wiki – all of these can be done using the iPhone 4S AND the iPad 2!
Perhaps Apple has reason which it chooses to keep a secret right now. Perhaps Siri’s usefulness must first be tested before Apple rolls it out to iPads. Anyway, all I know is I want SIRI on my iPad and I want it now!
If I can’t get Siri from Apple then I do know I can get it somewhere else…  You know how busy the jailbreaking community can be and it won’t be long before they come out with something like or even better than Siri for iPad.

By far one of the best features of iOS 5 is wireless syncing and backing up, as the name implies it allows you to wirelessly transfer apps, music, books, contacts, calendars, movies, photos, everything you had to use a wired sync for, but it’s done through the air. If your device supports iOS 5, it’ll support Wi-Fi syncing, including iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad, iPad 2, and iPod touch 3rd & 4th generations.
Wireless syncing requires iOS 5 and iTunes 10.5 or later, be sure you have both installed before attempting to enable syncing through wi-fi or else the option won’t be visible. This setup process is the same on Mac OS X and Windows, and is fully compatible with both if you are syncing to the different platforms.

Set Up Wireless Syncing in iTunes 10.5 & iOS 5 for iPhone, iPad, & iPod

You’ll have to connect your iOS device to your computer to set it up, but after that you’re wire free with the exception of charging the hardwares battery.

With the iTunes side enabled, now pick up the iOS device to finish the process:
From iOS 5

• Launch “Settings” and tap on “General”
• Tap on “iTunes Wi-Fi Sync”
• Select the computer you set up wi-fi syncing on in the prior iTunes step
• Tap on the “Sync” button to start the wireless syncing

You can also double-check that this is working by disconnecting the iPhone or iPad and then choosing the “Sync” option from iTunes on the Mac or PC, you’ll see the familiar sync screen on your device.

Using Wi-Fi Syncing with iOS 5

Once wi-fi syncing is enabled and set up properly, the iOS device will automatically sync wirelessly any time the hardware is connected to a power source, including the USB cable, speaker docks, or otherwise. This process will also backup your iPhone or iPad automatically and wirelessly. Other than that automatic process, you can also initiate manual backups and syncing from the iPhone/iPad or from iTunes on the Mac or PC:

• Tap to “Settings” > “General” > “iTunes Wi-Fi Sync” and tap on the ‘Sync’ button

At any point you can cancel this by tapping the “Cancel Sync” button.
Start Syncing Wirelessly from iTunes on a Mac or PC
If you want to initiate a manual sync, you can continue do so by selecting that button within iTunes.

Troubleshooting Problems with Wireless Syncing
There’s a variety of potential issues and fixes, Apple provides has a few helpful tips if you run into any issues:

• Verify the iOS device is running iOS 5 and the PC or Mac is running iTunes 10.5 or later
• Quit and relaunch iTunes
• Restart the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
• Reset the wireless router
• Verify the iOS device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the Mac / PC
• Check for network interference from cordless phones, metal barriers, interfering wi-fi signals, microwaves, etc
• Verify firewall settings and that TCP ports 123 and 3689 in addition to UDP ports 123 and 5353 are open and accessible (these are ports iTunes uses)

There doesn’t seem to be any limitation on the number of iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch devices that can be used with this, although you may run into the traditional limit of Macs or PC’s that an iOS device can be linked to.
