Jailbreak 6.0.1 Untethered/Tethered iPhone & iPod Touch With Redsn0w

iOS 6.0.1 the firmware that was released today is already jailbreakable. Note that this jailbreak will have the same specifications as the previous one and only work for pre-A5 devices. In addition this jailbreak is still tethered for all devices other than old bootrom 3GS’s meaning that you will have to boot tethered every time your device shuts off.

Tethered
- iPhone 4
- iPhone 3GS new bootrom
- iPod Touch 4G
Untethered
- iPhone 3GS old bootrom [Does your device have an old bootrom?]

Tutorial for all A4 devices (Tethered)
  1. Download and Install RedSn0w 0.9.15B2 or higher. [Download Link]
  2. Download a copy of your device’s iOS 6.0 firmware. [Download Link]
  3. Invoke DFU mode on your device, if you don’t know how to do this RedSn0w will walk you through it when needed.
  4. Open Redsn0w, navigate to: Extras>Select IPSW and select your iOS 6.0 firmware that you downloaded in step 2.
  5. Now navigate back to the home page of RedSn0w and click the ‘Jailbreak’ button. Leave this to continue until boxes come up and check ‘Install Cydia’.
  6. Once done, your device will appear as if it has just booted. However Cydia will not be on your homepage. You now need to perform a tethered boot.
  7. Connect your device back up to your computer if you have disconnected it, and reopen RedSn0w if you closed it. Now place your device one again into DFU mode, and go to Extras>Select IPSW and select the same firmware that we did in the first step, it’s essentially the same process. Once RedSn0w has done it’s thing, select ‘Just Boot’ and when your device reloads it will have Cydia on it!
Since the jailbreak is tethered you will have to complete step 7 every time your device fully powers down.

How to Jailbreak Your iOS 5 Device

The iPhone Dev-Team has done it again: iOS 5 has been out for only a week or so, but the group has already come up with a tethered jailbreak for devices running Apple's latest software. Here's how to jailbreak your iOS 5 device using the iPhone Dev-Team's Redsn0w tool.
Jailbreaking an iPhone allows users to gain root access to the device, as well as to install unauthorized applications. You might not know that Apple has a stringent App Store policy, and that it routinely rejects apps for a number of reasons, including smuttiness and other "content issues." Jailbreaking your iPhone will let you download unauthorized content from Cydia, which is the jailbroken equivalent of the App Store (don't worry--you'll still be able to use the real App Store).
For the first time, users do not need to manually supply their device's IPSW file. What this means for you is that the new Redsn0w jailbreak is extremely quick and easy to perform on any iOS 5 device (minus the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4S). The Dev-Team is working on an untethered jailbreak, but for now the tethered version is all that's available.

Can I Jailbreak My iOS Device?

Currently this jailbreak works only with the following devices (all must be running iOS 5):
  • iPod Touch 3G
  • iPod Touch 4G
  • iPad (original)
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone 4 (AT&T/Verizon)
At the moment no jailbreak is available for the iPad 2 running iOS 5, or the new iPhone 4S.

The Risks of Jailbreaking

This jailbreak is currently incompatible with phones that have unlockable basebands. Do not try this if your phone has an unlockable baseband (and you want to keep it that way). Your baseband is unlockable/unlocked if you can use it on any (GSM, or SIM-card-using) network. You do not want to use this method if you either purchased an unlocked iPhone from Apple or unlocked your iPhone using a tool such as Ultrasn0w.
This is a tethered jailbreak, which means that each time you reboot your iOS device, you'll need to have it connected to a computer running Redsn0w, the jailbreak program. Basically, you won't be able to reboot the device if you're not close to your computer, so keep that in mind.
Before you do anything (even update to iOS 5), be sure to back up your device. How you back up depends on what type of data you have on your phone; I had a lot of photos, for instance, so I used Image Capture on my Mac to save all of my pictures to my computer.
When you jailbreak your iOS device, you risk turning your new toy into a paperweight--and if you accidentally brick your iDevice, Apple probably won't help you out. I've never had any problems with jailbreaking, but that doesn't mean you won't, so proceed cautiously.

How to Jailbreak an iOS Device Running iOS 5

Step 1: Install iOS 5
To perform this jailbreak, your device must be running iOS 5. To get iOS 5, plug your device into your computer and open iTunes. Find the device and select Update. Your music, apps, and data may be erased from your device, but you can update to iOS 5 without losing your data if you prepare properly.
How to Jailbreak Your iOS 5 Device
Step 2: Download Redsn0w
To jailbreak your iOS 5 device, you'll be using the Redsn0w jailbreak tool from the iPhone Dev-Team. Download either Redsn0w 0.9.9b6 for Windows or Redsn0w 0.9.9b6 for Mac.
How to Jailbreak Your iOS 5 Device
Step 3: Open Redsn0w, and Jailbreak
Double-cliick on Redsn0w to open it. A window will show two options: Jailbreak and Extras. Choose Jailbreak.
How to Jailbreak Your iOS 5 Device
Make sure your device is plugged in, and turn it off (if it isn't plugged in, plug it in first and then turn it off).
Then, click the Next button. Be ready, as you'll be prompted to hold down a series of buttons quickly in order to enter Device Firmware Update (DFU) mode. Redsn0w will walk you through this, but just so you're prepared, the series is as follows:
1. Hold down the Power (upper-right) button for approximately 5 seconds.
2. Keep holding the Power button and hold down the Home button at the same time for 10 seconds.
3. Release the Power button but keep holding the Home button for about 10 seconds.
How to Jailbreak Your iOS 5 Device
Once you enter DFU mode, Redsn0w will do the rest. Redsn0w will go through a series of screens--don't do anything, just wait.
Step 4: Install Cydia
Once your phone is jailbroken (don't unplug it yet!) Redsn0w will ask you to 'select your options'.
Make sure Install Cydia is checked, and click Next. (As mentioned earlier, Cydia is the jailbroken equivalent of the App Store.)
You'll see some stuff flash across your iOS device's screen, and then your device will reboot (tethered) in a jailbroken state.
How to Jailbreak Your iOS 5 Device
Step 5: How to Perform a Tethered Reboot
Now that your iOS device is jailbroken, you can reboot it only while it's tethered to your computer. (If you reboot untethered, Cydia and Safari may crash.)
To accomplish this, connect your device to your computer and open Redsn0w. Click Extras and then Just boot. The program will prompt you to enter DFU mode, and then your device will reboot.

Download RedSn0w 0.9.9b5 To Jailbreak iOS 5

This new version of RedSn0w has been dubbed RedSn0w 0.9.9b5 by the Dev-Team and is the most reliable way to Jailbreak iOS 5 tethered. RedSn0w 0.9.9b5 is only available to download for Mac OS X as the Windows version will be coming soon after more testing.
Straight from the Dev-Team’s website:
Update #13:  With today’s official iOS5 release, redsn0w has been updated to 0.9.9b5 to include the public URLs for the IPSW files.  This way, first-time iOS5 jailbreakers don’t need to supply the IPSW file manually.  It’s still a tethered jailbreak on all except the old-bootrom iPhone3GS, and it doesn’t apply to iPad2 or the upcoming iPhone4S.
Because the jailbreak is currently only tethered for most devices, we’re not going to release a new PwnageTool yet.  Instead, we’ve decided to build some of PwnageTool’s functionality into redsn0w (since you need redsn0w to “Just boot tethered” on every power cycle anyway).  The new “Custom IPSW” button on the Extras screen will create a custom IPSW without the baseband update for 4.3.3 or 5.0gm (iPhone3GS and iPhone4 only, for now).  Remember not to accidentally restore to the stock IPSW after you create the custom one!  The custom one begins with NO_BB_ (for “no baseband”).
You must enter “Pwned DFU” mode before trying to use the NO_BB_ IPSW with iTunes (and your hosts file cannot be pointing to Cydia’s servers due to the new blob nonce mechanism they’re using in iOS5).
Version 0.9.9b5 only available for Mac for now, until we can do more testing on the Windows version of “Custom IPSW”.
We’re currently working on a normal compatibility update for existing ultrasn0w unlockers.  After that we’ll try to fix the iBooks issue on jailbroken iOS5.
Besides the ability to automatically Jailbreak iOS 5 this version of RedSn0w allows unlockers to update to iOS 5 by creating a custom IPSW (see extras menu). If you would like to download RedSn0w 0.9.9b5 for Mac OS X

Redsn0w Can Jailbreak iOS 4.3.5 On iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad, iPod touch. Here’s How To Use It! [Tutorial]

Apple has unexpectedly pushed out an incremental update for iOS 4.3.x, and it is dubbed as iOS 4.3.5. This minor release is no more than a security update, aiming to patch issues with certificate verification.
iOS 4.3 WM
The good news is that we have tested it and can confirm that the current version of Redsn0w can jailbreak the just released iOS 4.3.5 on iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad 1, and iPod touch 4G/3G. But it will be limited to tethered boot, which means you will have to reconnect your device to your computer every time you reboot your iOS device. iPad 2 is obviously not supported. This has also been confirmed by MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev Team:
@zaone @m1ckey29 ah ok thanks for checking! So those who really do want tethered 4.3.5 can use redsn0w pointed at 4.3.4 (except iPad2)
4.3.5 Jailbreak[4]
Note: Those relying on a carrier unlock must stay away from Redsn0w.
How to Jailbreak iOS 4.3.5 (Tethered)
Step 1: Download iOS 4.3.5 and iOS 4.3.4 (required by this version of Redsn0w) firmware file for your device from the links given at the end.
Step 2: Download Redsn0w 0.9.8b4 for Windows or Mac. Also make sure you are running the latest version of iTunes, which is version 10.4.
Step 3: Now start Redsn0w, browse for the iOS 4.3.4 firmware file (NOT the 4.3.5) that you downloaded in Step 1 and point it towards Redsn0w. Refer to the screenshots below:
4.3.4-Jailbreak
4.3.2-Untethered-Jailbreak-2
Step 4: Once Redsn0w is done recognizing the firmware file, click Next and there you’ll be taken to a new window. Simply check the “Install Cydia” box as shown below and leave other options as it is for now. Once done, click Next.
4.3.2-Untethered-Jailbreak-3
Step 5: On this screen, Redsn0w will instruct you to power down your device and plug it in to your computer. Follow the onscreen instructions and then click Next to continue.
4.3.2-Untethered-Jailbreak-4
Step 6: On this screen you will have to put your device in DFU mode with a combination of the Power button and the Home button for a certain amount of time, simply follow the onscreen instructions on how to do so. The combination is usually like this:
  • Hold down Power button for 5 seconds.
  • Now without releasing the Power button, hold down the Home button simultaneously with the Power button for 10 seconds.
  • Let go of the Power button but keep on holding the Home button for another 15 seconds.
If you performed the above mentioned steps correctly, then your device should be in DFU mode.
4.3.2-Untethered-Jailbreak-5
Step 7: Redsn0w will now jailbreak your device, don’t do anything weird at this point, just let Redsn0w finish. We would recommend that you don’t do anything with your PC or Mac at all during the process. Sitting idle and waiting for the process to end on its own is much advised.
Since this is a tethered jailbreak, therefore whenever your iOS device loses power, it will go into the dreaded Apple logo boot screen loop. To get out of that, simply start from Step 3 again and in Step 4, uncheck “Install Cydia” and instead check “Just boot tethered right now” option and hit “Next” with your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch connected to your PC or Mac. And yes, you will have to do this every time when your device reboots or loses power.
Redsn0w-1
That’s it! You should now have a jailbroken iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch running iOS 4.3.5.
